Teaching with Purpose: Responsive Practice for All Learners with Katherine Reilly
Materials do not teach, rather, teachers do.
Coursebooks and ready-made resources are valuable starting points, but they become effective only through how you interpret, adapt, scaffold, and mediate them.
Join us on May 03 for an intensive, highly practical 6-hour workshop with ELT Author and Teacher Trainer, Katherine Reilly.
This workshop focuses on responsive teaching practice: the professional skill of adjusting both teaching decisions and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners regardless you are in a well-resourced school, a low-resource environment, or a blended setting. We will move beyond simple "material adaptation" to explore task design, classroom interaction, behavior management, and emotional safety. This is a "no-taboo" zone where we address real classroom realities: mixed levels, SEN (special educational needs), behavioral challenges, and limited connectivity.
You will learn:
• how to identify learner needs without relying on labels or placement tests.
• how to conduct a "materials autopsy" to find hidden barriers in your coursebooks.
• how to prevent behavioral issues through proactive lesson sequencing.
• ethical strategies for managing behavior when things go wrong.
• practical ways to teach sensitive topics and diverse identities (SEN, intersectionality).
• how to use AI as a sustainable tool for scaffolding and workload reduction.
This workshop is minimal theory (10 - 15%), maximum practice, through case studies, collaborative problem-solving, and breakout sessions.
Bonuses for ENBI Agents: a pre-workshop article exclusively for CLASSified digital magazine and post-workshop Q&A support from our dear Katherine.
